10/6 m antenna

Wow, this use of 10m for NVIS is news to me. I was taught that 40m thru 80m were the only bands to use. I know that during Vietnam a lot of guys discovered that by tying the end of their long whip on their jeep to a stump so it was horizontal they could achieve some NVIS and be able to talk over a range without some sort of repeater. I don't know what frequencies they were using for that and what time of the day or night. It would be interesting to know. Anyone??Regarding an antenna it sort of depends on what you want to do. A vertical dipole driven by ladder line from a ballanced tuner would probably do well for DX (long distance). I was recently reading about a setup like that. The ladder line came off at a 45 degree angle. Of course you could parallel a 6m dipole and a 10m dipole in parallel together. No trap required. You could make the dipole from aluminum pipe with a plastic separator in the middle and elevate it a few feet above the ground. I would like to do that for a 20m dipole but would need to support it by the high limb of a tall tree. You might be able to do that too and you could make it from wire. Just a thought.
