I'll post first! There was a topic in the antenna section that I should probably reference here. Basically it is our preambles for our weekly net. We've left out and mention of the Church in our Nets as we've heard of others having issues of harassment.  Anyone else do the same or know of an instance where there was harassment?

No problems here but the repeater owner is a member and it's basically only used by us.  Also, net control just says the name of the stake not the entire church's name.  I guess it is possible though that it could happen.  There is a series of linked repeaters called the Win System that I have heard interference on in the past.

Hi again...This anti LDS topic should still be valid...I'm in an Oregon area where we are one in 23 people.  The secular outside world doesn't feel that a "Sunday only" church needs a ham radio system, but then they don't have responsability for their people! Church policy is that we don't identify over the air who we are for that reason..  but give a phone  number for interested persons to call.  It can either become a Missionary Opprotunity or turn people of antipathy away.Dick

I've never heard of such a policy and suspect that it may be a local policy.I am in Denver. We have a very large (and growing by leaps and bounds) group here; about 500 member hams in the region. We have member hams involved in the committees for several groups including a local repeater group, ARES, various clubs, etc.As I hear it, last year a ham on one of the repeaters we run a net on overheard us, heard that we were doing this as part of our emergency preparedness capability and offered 200 55-gallon drums... for free... delivered!  I cannot explain why others are having negative experiences, and I am sure they are happening, but I for one am proud to be 1) a member of the Church and 2) an Amateur Radio operator. Most of our nets are held on simplex frequencies and we have taken care not to jump on frequencies without first monitoring to determine whether there is someone already using them. (which I cannot say is true for the non-member Hams out there, they've jumped on the frequencies without any concern for anyone else on occasion.)73, WB7SGL-Rob
